Generally new year is celebrated on the 1st of January in most of the countries but in Sri Lanka we celebrate the new year on 13th and 14th of April as it’s the beginning of the new year according to the Sri Lankan traditional calendar. This is one of the most important festivals in Sri Lanka packed with a lot of traditional rituals and customs, and this is celebrated by all the Tamils and Sinhalese throughout the country. Sri Lankans welcome the new year in April with a lot of firecrackers, fireworks and a gourmet of traditional sweets.
